WOFO´s 3rd International Conference „Growing Together: Women, Forests, and a Sustainable Future“, was held 10-11 October 2025, in Reykjavík. More than 60 women in forestry from 14 countries, send out a these key messages:
– Forest education should modernize and support women in building knowledge and skills in the forestry sector, there are many good practice examples that should be acknowledged
– The role of women in combating climate change is crucial. Women in forestry are still facing many challenges connected mainly with the traditional image of forestry – but there are seeds of change with different initiatives to support girls and women in forestry (mentors, ambassadors, role models), to break the stereotypes and to change the image of forestry. WOFO International is one of them.
– At the end the participants found out that there are forests in Iceland, and what really matters: There are female forest pioneers and there was a chance to discuss with them.

On the second day, the participants went on an excursion to gain an insight into the literally growing forestry industry, the still small but promising timber industry, recreational use and the forests in þingvellir National Park.
